We're still racing one another I don't know why they do it Break from one another Just to see what you'd do Someone told you not to linger 'You've just got to move along' Someone said, 'you're a dreamer Be careful… be careful 'Such things are for the weaker The ones that feel and need too much' Someone told you to 'stay meager Don't push… don't push' Someone pegged you a 'thinker A force built to devour' They said, 'fear your brother He's the reason you suffer' 'Good people wouldn't do this You know, we'd never hurt you Give us everything to prove it Give us everything to prove it We know you fucking love it Oh, we know that you love it Just keep coming back for more We know you fucking love it' They said 'don't think so much You're gonna hurt yourself You're gonna hurt yourself And we just might take it all' Pretty people don't deserve this Those who have the right to earn Just to serve a single purpose And to watch the rest burn

There's a version of this life That's as good as I imagined Where there's a place for everything Every thought Every doubt Every grace All redeeming I wanna see myself For all that I am And all that I can Better than before And completely whole Self-awareness Forgiveness Transcendence All at once Shed the weight Spare the need There is violence in this There is grievance in this There is silence in this There is patience in this There is violence in this There is grievance in this There is silence in this There is patience in this There is grace in this...

about

Tongueless Chicago, Illinois

First a shiver, than a rustle of leaves. I smell wormwood and ash and am immediately reminded of that place- the one I worked so hard to leave behind. I stagger backward, stumbling on the roots, intoxicated with the smell.

And then I see you.

I am at once filled with sound and absolutely quiet. Just as it should be- the violent sound of the desperate; the utterance of the toungeless.
